Identifying Glossaries
Some courses may include one or more glossaries as a way to help you learn terminology related to your course.  You can identify a glossary with this icon:

Depending on the course, you may asked to add entries to a glossary and review the entries of fellow students.  The following videos show you how to view a glossary and how to add entries.

Video: Viewing a Glossary

The following video will walk you through the basics of viewing a course glossary.  You can follow along using the downloadable PDF of the video script at the bottom of this solution.

INSTRUCTIONS: Viewing a Glossary

  1. To open a glossary, click on the Glossary title on the course main page.
  2. This will take you to the first page of the glossary, where you will see a list of entries in alphabetical order.
  3. Browse the glossary's entries using the tabs and links at the top of the page or search for specific entries using the search box.

NOTE: In some courses, glossary entries are hyperlinked throughout the rest of the course content.  When you hover over these links, a question mark will appear.  Click on the link and the definition will appear in a pop-up window.  When you are finished reading the definition, click Ok to close the window.

Challenge: Peruse a Glossary

The Moodle Sandbox contains a Glossary of Ascended Master Terms for you to peruse.  In addition to reading entries, try using the search feature.

Video: Adding Entries to a Glossary

This video will show you how to add entries to a glossary, should your instructor tell you to do so for an assignment.  You can follow along using the downloadable PDF of the video script at the bottom of this solution.

INSTRUCTIONS: Adding Entries to a Glossary

  1. To add an entry to a glossary, open the glossary by clicking on the Glossary title on the course main page.
  2. This will take you to the first page of the glossary, where you will see a list of entries in alphabetical order.
  3. Click Add a new entry.
  4. At the top of the new page that appears, you will see the instructions for the glossary followed by an area where you can fill in your entry.  Following these instructions, add a Concept, Description, Keyword(s) and Attachment.
IMPORTANT: If you add an image as an attachment, be sure to make sure that it is an appropriate small size.  The image will appear below your entry, but if it is too big, it will make it hard for you to click the edit icon, should you need to make any changes.
  5. Click Save changes to submit your entry.  Depending on how your instructor has set up the glossary, your entry may be automatically accepted into the glossary, or you may have to wait until your instructor reviews or approves your entry.
  6. You will only have 30 minutes to make edits to your entry.  To make an edit, click the edit icon next to your entry.  This will take you back to the editing page for your entry.
  7. Make any needed changes and then click Save changes.

Challenge: Add an Entry

Locate the Glossary of Student Cities in the Moodle Sandbox.  Here you can practice adding entries of your favorite cities.  Follow the instructions given in the glossary introduction and review the entries from other students.
