MINS 1110 Homiletics 1

Credits: 1

Number of Weeks: 8

Typically offered in: Spring

Homiletics—the art and science of sermon construction—is an integral part of the ministerial path. In this entry-level course, students will become acquainted with the basics of good sermon construction, in particular textual preaching based on scriptural verses and passages from the teachings of the ascended masters. They will outline and create one mini-sermon and will submit a video recording of their mini-sermon for critiquing by the instructor and feedback from classmates.

In addition, students will become familiar with the elements of an effective, inspiring Sunday Service in Church Universal and Triumphant. They will learn how and when to use various Sunday Service rituals as well as how to sustain a sacred forcefield, make appropriate music selections and actively engage the congregation in the service.  They will submit one complete outline of a Sunday service matrix.

This course consists mostly of selected readings combined with practical homiletical and Sunday service assignments.
