Department of Liberal Arts

Welcome to the Department of Liberal Arts and the Writers' Guild Certificate Program. Keep reading for information about our Liberal Arts program and courses, including the Writers’ Guild Certificate Program, and how to apply.

SU's Department of Liberal Arts is in the early stages of formation. The Department aims to provide students with a broad spectrum of knowledge and skills to prepare you to contribute to and thrive in a worldwide community. In the initial phase, the emphasis of the courses offered in this department is on mastering written and spoken communication. You will build skills in a transformative online learning environment designed to sharpen your mind and develop your creative talents.

Why Writers Training?

The ascended master Hermes Trismegistus has called for a training program for writers so they can better serve the ascended masters in spreading their teachings through the written word. The goal of the Summit University Writers' Guild Certificate Program is to inspire and educate aspiring writers to fulfill the master's request.

Many spiritual seekers meant to find the teachings of the masters have not done so because the teachings as currently presented do not always meet these seekers where they are at in their lives. Therefore, the goal of the Writers' Guild Certificate Program is to develop skilled writers who know how to reach spiritual seekers in our contemporary world.

Writers' Guild Certificate Program

Summit University's Writers' Guild Certificate Program prepares students to create inspiring, persuasive writing. The writing program trains students to write effective copy and content to strategize, attract, engage and nurture spiritual seekers. Although the program will focus primarily on persuasive writing, students will also be exposed to other types of writing, such as memoir writing and fiction writing.

The written word is an instrument of the Holy Spirit.  Students will be trained in writing techniques that render belief transformation through education and radiation, which is the quality of divine feeling you put into your writing. Simply put, students will learn how to write effectively, inspirationally and convincingly about the teachings.

At this time, the Writers' Guild Certificate Program will take a minimum of two years of part-time study to complete (four 16-week semesters).  As courses are developed, students will be able to accelerate their part-time studies to complete the 9 required credits in a shorter period of time.

View the curriculum for this program.

ENGL 1281 trains students in strategies to create persuasive writing that is fresh, exciting and jargon-free for spiritual seekers new to the teachings of the ascended masters.  The course will explore marketing concepts such as the Buddha Formula and belief transformation. It will also cover memoir and fiction writing, understanding personas, and writing for micro-communities.

Additional Writers’ Guild courses are currently in development.

General Program Information

Post-Secondary Certificate Programs

Summit University® Online is a post-secondary certificate-granting institution. It confers non-degree certificates, not academic degrees. Upon successful completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion for the program(s) in which they have enrolled.

Current Programs

Our programs are organized and conducted by Summit University’s School of Theology and Spiritual Studies, and they take place almost entirely online.

Current offerings include certificate programs in Ministerial Studies, Leadership Studies, and General Studies. Students may also take individual General Studies courses for credit or for audit.

Please be aware that curriculum and courses are subject to modification. Summit University reserves the right to change them without prior notification.

Credits and Course Load

 Effective December 1, 2015

Current certification programs require 18 credits of study. Courses are delivered based on a part-time study schedule; full-time options are not currently available.

Students who wish to complete their program in three semesters should take an average of six credits a semester. To maintain a balanced pace and course load, all students are encouraged to complete a minimum of two to four credits in their first semester and to maintain that minimum throughout their program. However, if students encounter personal circumstances that require them to slow their SU online pace, they may request in writing the option of taking just one or two credits or taking a semester sabbatical.

Absence from Program

Effective December 1, 2015

Students in all certificate programs or taking individual courses for credit who do not complete any course credits in six semesters (three years) are required to submit an essay explaining their absence and why they are now ready to continue their SU program studies. They may also be asked to speak with an SU representative.

After an absence of 10 semesters (five years), students will be required to reapply if they wish to resume their certificate program. All credits earned within the past 10 years will be honored.

After 20 semesters (10 years) from date of the completion of a credit, the credit will expire if the student’s program has not been completed. Any course(s) taken 10 years ago would need to be retaken.

Audit students are not required to complete a certificate program and do not earn any credits that might expire. Therefore the above Absence from Program timelines and polices do not apply to audit students.

Accreditation

Although Summit University is exploring accreditation and will pursue this goal as the online school develops, SU is not yet accredited.

Transfer of Credit

The goal of the School of Theology and Spiritual Studies is to offer programs for those who would like to prepare for the ministry or serve in spiritual leadership or community developer roles in their local communities. Acceptance for transfer of course credits to other schools is determined by the receiving institution.

Placement Services

Summit University does not offer placement services for graduates or enrolled students. We do not guarantee service opportunities, employment, occupational advancement, salary or benefits.

Our Philosophy – REAL useful education

Our philosophy is to impart real, useful education. Summit University embodies relevant, enlightening, advanced learning for those interested in pursuing spiritual understanding braided with secular knowledge.

R – Relevant

Why spend five or six years – and tens of thousands of dollars – pursuing an academic education that does little more than pass you on, cookie-cut, to a world that seems to care for not much else than preserving the status quo? At SU we believe that each soul is born with a fiery mission, a unique purpose that is indispensable for making our planet a better place for all. Your mission is a precious gift that you alone can embrace and let blossom. Our programs are designed to help you unlock the unique you-ness that, when equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills, will set the world around you on fire.

E – Enlightening

Educating the mind alone is not enough. You have deeper, wiser faculties, vaster reaches into the realm of intuitive, heart-centered understanding. At SU we educate the whole human being; we aim to help you integrate with your higher mind, which is the true source of understanding and enlightenment. We bring you a holistic experience that helps you pursue profound self-knowledge and self-transformation, chiseling your character and shaping you for the positive impact you know in your heart you would like to make on the world.

A – Advanced

We are not satisfied with teaching you what you can get at any other institution of learning. Rather, your education will straddle the world of the known and the world that lies just beyond  the frontier between science and spirituality. We firmly believe that there is more betwixt heaven and earth than men dream of in their philosophy. Life in all its fullness is beckoning you to dive in and saturate yourself with an enlightened understanding of our native universe.

L – Learning

Here at SU we think of learning as threefold. First of all, our learning is informative: you need the facts as well as the ability to interpret them correctly and use them intelligently to attain your purpose. Our learning is formative: it offers you lots of opportunities to strengthen and sculpt your character into what you want it to be, and gives you the skills you need to go out and be that unique you. Our learning is transformative: you’ll reach new depths of self-understanding, purpose and the true, spirit-centered ability to make a real difference in the world.

A Unique Learning Experience

In Summit University Online, we approach the evaluation of student learning from a threefold perspective. We want our students’ learning to be Informative (acquiring knowledge and skills), Formative (forming or strengthening one’s character, worldview and ethics), and Transformative (helping our students grow spiritually, including deepening and strengthening the tie with their Higher Self).

This I.F.T. formula is built into every course, in different proportions relative to the nature of the subject matter. It will make your learning experience truly invaluable and unique.

Assessment and Evaluation

Summit University assesses student work through fair and impartial evaluation. Student work may include written assignments, projects, discussion forums, practicums, self-assessments, journaling, and exercises as well as mentorships and Intensives where appropriate.

  • Written assignments and midterm/final projects are evaluated on a grading scale where 93-100=A.
  • Experience-based components, such as practicums and self-assessments, are evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis.
  • Students receive their grades via private grade report in Moodle.
  • Discussion forum requirements are set by individual instructors. Please contact your instructor regarding participation requirements.
  • Students who are not participating in a timely manner are notified electronically that they need to catch up.
  • Certification students who do not maintain the necessary grade point average are contacted by the Registrar.
  • Requests for late submission of assignments must be negotiated with the instructor. Late work is discouraged and may be lowered one grade.
  • Students who attend Intensives are evaluated on attendance, participation in group conversations, written exams and assignments.

Department of Ministerial Studies

Welcome to the Department of Ministerial Studies. This is one of three departments under Summit University's School of Theology. Keep reading for information about our Ministerial Studies programs and courses and how to apply.

Summit University’s online ministerial studies are for you if…

  • You feel a profound calling to offer spiritual and practical assistance to your fellowman—ranging from supporting families, seniors, children and youth to doing outreach or hospice work, conducting rituals and services, administering sacraments, and providing spiritual understanding to congregations and seekers.
  • You would like to pursue a ministerial function in Church Universal and Triumphant.
  • You would like to study online, at your own pace, with likeminded fellow-students.

The ministerial studies program consists of two levels which prepare a student for a ministerial vocation.

Level 1 – Ministering Servant Certificate Program

Level 1 is a preparatory step for those who are thinking of pursuing ministry as a vocation.  It thoroughly prepares students for an active role as ministering servants in their local communities.  Students choose between two tracks:

Track A is the basic study program, open to anyone who meets our academic prerequisites.  It concludes with a certificate of completion in Ministering Servant Studies.

Track B follows the same basic program but has additional elements geared specifically to those who desire to pursue ministry as a vocation.  This track is open to members of the Keepers of the Flame Fraternity on lesson 8 and above. It prepares students for the office of lay brother/sister in Church Universal and Triumphant, which is a prerequisite step for becoming a minister in the Church. The office of lay brother sister is awarded by the Church to graduates of Track B who also meet the Church’s spiritual standards and character requirements. Download Lay Brother / Lay Sister in Church Universal and Triumphant® to read more about this office.

Both tracks will take a minimum of 1.5 years of part-time study (three 16-week semesters).

View the curriculum for this program.

Level 2 – Ministerial Training Certificate Program

In our Ministerial Training Certificate Program, students are trained to professionally minister to a congregation or community.  This program also has two tracks.

Track A is the basic certificate program, open to those who successfully complete Track A or Track B of the Ministering Servant Certificate Program.

Track B is open to those who successfully complete Track B of the Ministering Servant Certificate Program. This track has additional elements specifically designed for lay brothers/sisters in Church Universal and Triumphant who desire to pursue the mantle of lay minister.  Lay brothers/sisters are eligible to apply for the office of lay minister after successful completion of Level 2 and service as a lay brother/sister for a period of two-and-a-half to three years.  After three years of successful ministry, lay ministers may become eligible for ordination, which means they dedicate themselves to the ministry as a lifelong calling.

Level 2 will take a minimum of 2.5 – 3 years of part-time study.

Ministry as Vocation

Students interested in pursuing a ministerial role in Church Universal and Triumphant should read Ministry as Vocation in Church Universal and Triumphant.  This booklet gives an in-depth explanation of what it means to be an Aquarian Age minister and will answer many questions.  It can be downloaded as a PDF by clicking here.

Department of Leadership Studies

Why Leadership Studies?

The world we live in is in dire need of heart-centered, well-trained leaders in many fields, courageous people who have a deep understanding of what it means to be a successful leader and know how to deal with the opposition and challenges that confront every effort to make this world a better place.

Leadership Studies Certificate Program

Summit University’s online Leadership Studies Certificate Program prepares students to be a leader in any situation, including essential leadership skills such as servant-leadership, team building and conflict resolution.  You’ll learn how to lead by example and how to bring out the best in those around you.

You’ll also receive the kind of knowledge and training you’ll need to take command and cut through – not just in the physical realm but also at a spiritual level, where the greatest battles are fought.

Equipped with a thorough grasp of how to motivate people and stand for what’s right, you will be ready to claim your heart-centered leadership role wherever life directs you—whether this means serving in a leadership capacity at your local church center, taking up a leadership torch at work, or embracing the worthy cause that tugs on your heart.
